Bike Trip to Medumi

Went to Medumi. Didn't feel like riding the same road back, so I rolled along the dirt road.  Made a description on Google Maps, the markers are filled out, hover your mouse over them and read if you really have absolutely nothing else to do. It's picturesque in Medumi. And it smells nice when you ride along the dirt road leading to Svente. I covered 61 kilometers in 4.5 hours. My speed, not counting the dawdling, was 22-25 km/h on asphalt (the hills are terrifying up to the border) and 15-20 on the dirt road (the washboarding – my respects). Next season I'll rebuild my bike for trails, meaning unpaved roads. I'll buy wide rims, tires, a fork, and if I have the money – a seatpost.

Map of the Daugavpils city surroundings with a circular route drawn by a blue line through Svente and Medumi. Four blue geolocation markers are placed along the way.
The route

A long one-story building with bright yellow walls and a rusty red-brown corrugated metal roof. It sits amidst tall grass and sparse trees under a clear blue sky.
We have some cool sheds around here.

A modern house with a dark roof sits on top of a grassy hill under a clear blue sky. Below, in the foreground, there is a patch of bare, uneven ground with an exposed soil cut.
Awesome spot for a house, waterfront, hell yeah.

A sandy lake shore with sparse grass and small puddles in the foreground. In the background, the water surface is visible with a small wooden footbridge near the shore, surrounded by a dense green forest under a light sky.
Not fenced off, has footbridges, convenient for swimming.

A winding dirt road runs along a green slope with bare earth on the left and a wall of forest on the right, behind which a body of water can be seen.
And here someone is only just getting ready to build a house.

A view of a wide lake through the silhouettes of trees in the foreground. On the opposite shore, a forest-covered hill rises under a light sky.
Lake Medumskoe.

A winding lake surrounded by dense forest, with a green grassy slope featuring a haystack in the foreground under a light overcast sky.
The same one.

A picturesque view of a calm lake surrounded by dense green trees and birches, with a grassy slope in the foreground under a clear sky.
Lake Šķirsteņu. Judging by the dictionary, it means “Jewelry Box”.

The same one.

Against the backdrop of a dense forest, there is a white sign with a dilapidated inscription "ARMENIJI". In front of it, large boulders are laid out, and to the right, an open gate and a small shed with a woodpile are visible.
Akmens – means stone. I don't know what the suffix in this word means.
“Big Rocks”?

A large gray stone with the word «EZERMALA» carved into it and a wavy pattern. In the background — a green field with a fence and trees under a bright sky.
Guest house “Ezermala”, meaning “Lakeside”. There's a million places with this name.

A path of concrete slabs with grass growing through them stretches across a green lawn towards a lake on the horizon. On the left are a two-story house, a pond with a small bridge, and a green gazebo, surrounded by trees under a light sky.
15 lats per night, sauna is 15 lats per hour. That's a pretty expensive sauna.

A lone tree with green foliage stands on a gentle grassy hill under a clear sky. To the left, a house under construction, an old building, and a utility pole are visible, and on the horizon — a forest and a body of water.
Can't believe they weren't too lazy to mow this. If you take away the tree, you'll get ”Windows XP during drought season”.

A white stork stands in a vast green field. In the background, a forest is visible, and in the distance — the outlines of a city under a light sky.
The little speck in the center is a – kurepesa.

Along an asphalt road with a shoulder, a harvested field stretches out, dotted with many rolls of hay or straw. On the horizon, trees and power line poles are visible under a clear blue sky.
Looks cooler in real life, just like all photos.
